World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a total 51 million viewers across the US, Canada, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball stated this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match series drew 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
